The Faugères boundaries were set in 1948, and it has been a recognized AOC since 1982. Situated to the south of Bédarieux and growing on steep, south facing terraces at altitudes of between 150 and 300 metres (500 – 1000 feet), it’s the mountainous climate and exclusively schist soil which give Faugères wine their very individual character. It was in the Faugères that SAFER and the DDA first experimented with planting on hillside terraces to help avoid the danger of soil erosion.
