White Clairette has been around since the Languedoc’s earliest recorded history. The Roman settlers drank it. During the Middle Ages and after the Renaissance, exports of this grape’s dry, maderized wines were big business in the Hérault valley region.
Made from a single grape variety, Clairette du Languedoc wines can be either young or rancio, dry or semi-sweet. The appellation name, gained in 1948, can be followed by the name of the commune where it’s produced.
Clairette du Languedoc production centres may also produce red or rosé Coteaux du Languedoc wines.
